Carissimi genitori, studenti, docenti, personale, membri dei gruppi e delle associazioni ignaziane, a conclusione di quest’anno scolastico, nel giorno in cui festeggiamo San Luigi Gonzaga, desidero raggiungere con un pensiero personale ciascuno di voi.
Luigi Gonzaga, gesuita, patrono di tutti i giovani e soprattutto degli studenti del nostro campus e di tutte le scuole ignaziane, morì all’età di 23 anni mentre si prendeva cura delle vittime della peste. In quell’occasione, proprio trasportando sulle spalle un moribondo, rimase contagiato e morì.
“Il gesto di non rimanere indifferente davanti alla vita di un malato di peste e di prenderlo in braccio, con coraggio e senza pensare nemmeno per un momento ad alternative diverse dalla cura e dall’amore” che sottolineavo in una circolare di due anni fa , mi fa pensare oggi a tutti coloro che durante questi lunghi mesi si sono dedicati al servizio dei nostri bambini, dei nostri giovani e delle varie situazioni di fragilità che la pandemia di COVID-19 ci ha consegnato.
Il pensiero corre subito ai nostri docenti e collaboratori tutti che hanno donato se stessi, stando dentro la storia e la situazione personale di ciascuno, accompagnandole con amore e con cura, senza tempo e senza sosta. A voi, cari docenti, il mio grazie più sincero per la testimonianza quotidiana che avete saputo donare a tutta la nostra comunità. Papa Francesco sempre di più nei suoi interventi sulla pandemia cita proprio voi accanto ai medici, agli infermieri e a tutti coloro che hanno permesso la tenuta del nostro mondo in questo difficile tempo. Spero davvero che da questa pandemia nasca un riconoscimento sempre più grande della vostra preziosa missione per il futuro dei nostri piccoli e del nostro pianeta!
E’ stato un anno denso e impegnativo, ma come ho più volte detto, se siamo stati capaci di attraversarlo è anche grazie a quel famoso “patto educativo” tra la scuola e le famiglie, che più volte ci ha visti corresponsabili nelle scelte e nel discernere di giorno in giorno, a volte di ora in ora, il bene maggiore per ciascuno e per tutti.
Desidero dire grazie ad ogni papà e ad ogni mamma per la fiducia che ci avete accordato, per la prudenza nell’affrontare le situazioni, per la trasparenza e la sincerità delle nostre comunicazioni, per avere affrontato ogni situazione particolare con senso di responsabilità per il bene della comunità.
E’ questa la strada che siamo chiamati a percorrere anche nel futuro, rinnovando e rinsaldando il nostro patto perché l’agire educativo in sinergia trasformi realmente la vita dei nostri ragazzi, costruendo con loro una comunità educante vivace e profetica.
San Luigi ha vissuto la sua breve vita con una intensità che ha molto da dire a tutti noi e ai giovani in particolare. Mi ha sempre affascinato la sua scelta controcorrente, segnata da un grande desiderio di libertà, di verità, di onestà, di purezza, da un desiderio fortissimo e bellissimo di seguire il Vangelo piuttosto che una promettente carriera familiare di ricchezza, di fama e di potere che si afferma senza compromessi e senza mezze misure nel cuore di Luigi ancora bambino.
Durante quest’anno ho visto ancora più forte, nonostante i limiti imposti dalla pandemia, l’apparire nel cuore dei nostri bambini e giovani di sogni e desideri autentici, puri, belli, di vita spesa per gli altri e non trattenuta da prospettive di piccolo cabotaggio. Forse i bambini e i ragazzi sono quelli che hanno sofferto di più le limitazioni della libertà e della socialità che a volte è venuta a mancare. Penso ai ragazzi più grandi che per alcuni tempi hanno visto in crisi non solo il loro diritto a studiare ma quello di crescere insieme agli altri. Ma sono e siamo testimoni di come la vita, nella fragilità, trova strade e feritoie per fare uscire la luce e la bellezza. Abbiamo voluto sempre ed in molti modi: con testi, musiche, confronti, laboratori pomeridiani …, grazie al loro spirito di iniziativa e collaborazione, prenderci carico del peso che portavano cercando di aiutarli ad esplicitarlo e trovando con loro un senso a tutto quello che stava avvenendo.
Sono loro che ci hanno aiutato ad intravedere orizzonti, a trovare ragioni per sperare e prospettive di futuro. Grazie allora a ciascuno di voi, cari ragazzi e ragazze, perché siete stati davvero i nostri maestri. E’ da voi che il futuro riparte ed è stato bello negli spettacoli di fine anno che hanno caratterizzato tutte le scuole e tutti i plessi ritrovare tanta energia e tanta speranza!
In questi giorni in cui i nostri maturandi vivono il tempo degli esami e mentre, finita anche venerdì scorso l’International School, accompagniamo la conclusione dell’anno scolastico dei nostri studenti più piccoli della Scuola dell’Infanzia che termineranno il prossimo 30 Giugno, la nostra comunità sta cominciando a vivere la freschezza e la libertà del Gonzaga Estate. E’ un tempo per ritrovare una dimensione diversa da quella vissuta durante l’anno scolastico, valorizzando il grande potenziale dei nostri spazi esterni. Rigenerarsi con la natura, socializzare con il gruppo, divertirsi attraverso attività ludiche che lascino la piacevole sensazione dello spirito di vacanza comunitaria, di allegria collettiva ritrovata e della voglia di stare insieme, valorizzare la dimensione sportiva come strumento di educazione integrale dei ragazzi … sono tutti ingredienti preziosi particolarmente quest’anno: una bella opportunità per riprendere un contatto più pieno con il mondo che li circonda, specialmente con il gruppo dei pari, riacquistando così quei momenti di socializzazione che, in parte, con la pandemia sono andati perduti.
Mentre li accompagniamo siamo già a lavoro per sognare e programmare il nuovo anno che ci attende. Vi daremo indicazioni più precise nelle prossime settimane ma certamente la direzione su cui proseguiremo sarà quella che abbiamo percorso durante quest’anno.
La pandemia ci ha consegnato l’idea di una prospettiva educativa che si sviluppa in ambienti di apprendimento anche diversi da quelli dell’aula scolastica tradizionale. L’idea di apprendimento diventa un’esperienza più ampia e più inclusiva che può avere altri luoghi, altri spazi e altri ambienti.
Questo ha comportato durante quest’anno la rivisitazione degli ambienti scolastici e la possibilità di abitare con frutto ambienti che possono aumentare le possibilità di apprendimento, creando maggiore flessibilità e continuità tra ciò che si vive dentro e fuori dall’aula. Continuerà dunque questa ricerca valorizzando ancora di più le potenzialità dei nostri ampi spazi verdi.
Si tratterà di valorizzare ora quanto la pandemia ci ha permesso di inventare, per continuare questa ricca sperimentazione didattica che unisce la scuola alla vita.
Una scuola che si apre ed esce dalle proprie mura, che dialoga con l’esterno e con le sfide dell’oggi, richiederà la concretizzazione di un più ampio patto educativo, capace di coinvolgere non soltanto chi come voi – docenti, studenti, genitori- è direttamente coinvolto nelle attività della scuola, ma anche in senso più ampio la comunità che gravità attorno al campus. Si delinea dunque il disegno di un campus, di una scuola di futuro e del futuro dalle porte aperte, capace di lasciar entrare le ricchezze culturali e sociali, e di lasciar uscire proposte ampie e stimolanti per lo sviluppo della nostra città e del Mediterraneo.
Con le parole di San Luigi, a cui affidiamo la nostra opera educativa e al quale chiediamo una speciale protezione sui ragazzi più in difficoltà e anche su coloro che stanno affrontando in questi giorni gli esami, vi saluto di cuore e vi auguro un sereno tempo di riposo e di ristoro estivo:

Dear parents, students, teachers, staff, members of Ignatian groups and associations, at the end of this school year, on the day we celebrate San Luigi Gonzaga, I would like to reach out to each of you with a personal thought.
Luigi Gonzaga, a Jesuit, patron of all teenagers and especially of the students on our campus and of all Ignatian schools, died at the age of 23 while caring for the victims of the plague. On that occasion, just carrying a dying man on his shoulders, he was infected and died.
“The gesture of not remaining indifferent to the life of a plague patient and of picking him up, with courage and without thinking for a moment about alternatives other than care and love” that I underlined in a circular two years ago, it makes me think today of all those who during these long months have dedicated themselves to the service of our children, our young people and the various situations of fragility that the COVID-19 pandemic has delivered to us.
Our thoughts immediately go to our teachers and collaborators who have given themselves, staying within the history and personal situation of each one, accompanying them with love and care, without time and without stopping. To you, dear teachers, my most sincere thanks for the daily witness that you have been able to give to our entire community. Pope Francis, increasingly in his interventions on the pandemic, mentions you right next to the doctors, nurses and all those who have allowed the holding of our world in this difficult time. I truly hope that this pandemic will give rise to an ever greater recognition of your precious mission for the future of our little ones and our planet!
It has been a dense and demanding year, but as I have said several times, if we were able to cross it, it is also thanks to that famous “educational pact” between school and families, which has repeatedly seen us co-responsible in the choices and in the discern from day to day, sometimes from hour to hour, the greater good for each and all.
I would like to say thanks to ecah father and each mother for the trust you have placed in us, for the prudence in dealing with situations, for the transparency and sincerity of our communications, for having faced each particular situation with a sense of responsibility for the good. of the community.
This is the path that we are called to take also in the future, renewing and strengthening our pact so that educational action in synergy really transforms the lives of our children, building with them a lively and prophetic educating community.
St. Louis lived his short life with an intensity that has a lot to say to all of us and to young people in particular. I have always been fascinated by his choice against the current, marked by a great desire for freedom, truth, honesty, purity, a very strong and beautiful desire to follow the Gospel rather than a promising family career of wealth, fame and power which affirms itself without compromise and without half measures in the heart of Luigi when he was still a child.
During this year I have seen even stronger, despite the limits imposed by the pandemic, the appearance in the hearts of our children and young people of authentic, pure, beautiful dreams and desires, of life spent for others and not held back by the perspectives of small cabotage.
Perhaps children and young people are the ones who have suffered the most from the limitations of freedom and sociality that has sometimes been lacking. I think of the older kids who for some time saw not witnesses of how life, in fragility, finds ways and loopholes to let out the light and beauty. We have always wanted and in many ways: with texts, music, comparisons, afternoon workshops …, thanks to their spirit of initiative and collaboration, to take charge of the weight they carried trying to help them to make it explicit and finding with them a meaning to everything. that was happening. future. Thanks then to each of you, dear boys and girls, because you have truly been our masters. It is with you that the future restarts and it was nice in the end-of-year shows that characterized all the schools and all the complexes to find so much energy and so much hope!
In these days in which our high school students live the time of the exams and while, after the International School also ended last Friday, we accompany the conclusion of the school year of our youngest students of the Kindergarten which will end on June 30th, the our community is beginning to experience the freshness and freedom of the Gonzaga Estate.
It is a time to rediscover a different dimension from that experienced during the school year, enhancing the great potential of our outdoor spaces. Regenerate oneself with nature, socialize with the group, have fun through playful activities that leave the pleasant feeling of the spirit of a community holiday, of rediscovered collective joy and the desire to be together, enhance the sporting dimension as an integral education tool for children … they are all particularly precious ingredients this year: a great opportunity to regain a fuller contact with the world around them, especially with the peer group, thus regaining those moments of socialization that, in part, have been lost with the pandemic.
While we accompany them we are already at work to dream and plan the new year that awaits us. We will give you more precise indications in the coming weeks but certainly the direction we will continue in will be the one we have traveled during this year. The pandemic has given us the idea of an educational perspective that develops in learning environments that are also different from those of the traditional classroom. The idea of learning becomes a broader and more inclusive experience that other places, other spaces and other environments can have. This led to the revisitation of school environments during this year and the possibility of fruitfully living environments that can increase learning opportunities, creating greater flexibility and continuity between what is experienced inside and outside the classroom. Therefore, this research will continue, enhancing even more the potential of our large green spaces.
It will now be a question of enhancing what the pandemic has allowed us to invent, to continue this rich didactic experimentation that unites school to life. A school that opens up and leaves its walls, that dialogues with the outside world and with today’s challenges, will require the realization of a broader educational pact, capable of involving not only those like you – teachers, students, parents – it is directly involved in the activities of the school, but also in a broader sense the community that gravity around the campus. The design of a campus is therefore outlined, a school of the future and the future with open doors, capable of letting in cultural and social riches, and of letting out broad and stimulating proposals for the development of our city and the Mediterranean.
With the words of San Luigi, to whom we entrust our educational work and to whom we ask for special protection on the children most in difficulty and also on those who are facing the exams in these days, I cordially greet you and wish you a peaceful time of rest and summer refreshment:

La natura, inoltre, permette di sviluppare la resilienza – “resilience” – perché anche quando fuori piove è bello e rilassante chiudere gli occhi e ascoltare il suono della pioggia. I nostri bambini “being active outside” diventano, così, piccoli esploratori “little exploreres” della natura semplice e stimolante e rielaborano il mondo esterno con quello del loro mondo interno: manipolano, trasformano, creano con la propria fantasia, costruendo la propria identità – “self-identity” – e autonomia – “self-reliance” – senza cadere nella trappola della noia.
